Premium Pick

Introducing the Chamoli Hand Knotted Jute Rug — a masterpiece of slow craft, where every single knot is tied by skilled artisan hands. Unlike woven dhurries, this rug is built knot by knot, creating a thick, plush pile surface that is as luxurious underfoot as it is beautiful to behold.

"This isn't just a rug — it's hundreds of hours of focused human effort, transformed into something you can walk on every day."

Made from premium natural jute, the Chamoli rug carries the warmth of earthy tones and the richness of traditional Himalayan craft into your living room, bedroom, or study. Its dense knotted structure gives it exceptional durability, making it a rug that ages beautifully with your home.

Design Story

Chamoli is a district nestled deep in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand — a land of ancient temples, terraced fields, and an unbroken tradition of textile arts. It is here that our artisans have honed the craft of hand knotting for generations, passing down techniques that predate industrialisation by centuries.

The Harvest

Raw jute is harvested from the fertile river plains, retted in water to separate the fibres, then sun-dried and hand-spun into the strong yarn used for knotting.

The Design

Motifs are drawn from Himalayan folk art — mandalas, mountain flora, and geometric forms found on temple walls and woollen shawls of the region.

The Knotting

Each knot is tied by hand onto a vertical loom, row by row. A skilled artisan ties hundreds of knots per hour — yet a single rug can take days or weeks to complete.

The Finishing

Once knotted, the pile is hand-clipped to an even height, washed, and sun-dried before a final quality check — ensuring every rug that leaves the workshop is perfect.

Slight variations in colour depth and knot density are not imperfections — they are the fingerprints of the artisan who made your rug.

Care Instructions

01

Vacuum Gently

Use low suction — no beater bar. Vacuum along the pile direction to avoid pulling knots loose.

02

Blot Spills Fast

Blot immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub — rubbing spreads stains and can loosen hand-tied knots.

03

Spot Clean Only

Damp cloth + mild soap for stains. Work gently in small circles, then blot dry. Never soak the rug.

04

No Machine Wash

Never machine wash or tumble dry. The knotted structure can unravel under agitation and heat.

05

Dry in Shade

If damp, lay flat in a ventilated shaded area. Prolonged direct sunlight can fade natural jute tones.

06

Rotate Regularly

Rotate every 2–3 months in high-traffic zones for even wear and to preserve the pile texture.

Hand knotted rugs are delicate heirlooms — always use a quality non-slip rug pad underneath, and avoid prolonged exposure to damp or humid conditions.
