Pink Bird Motif Persian Rug — Hand-Knotted Oushak Wool Rug

Hand Knotted · Pure Wool · Oushak Style · Bird Motif · Pink

Product Description

The Pink Bird Motif Persian Rug is a piece of rare warmth and character. Hand knotted in 100% premium wool in the classic Oushak tradition, it brings together two of the most beloved elements of Eastern decorative art — the soft, generous spirit of the Oushak weaving style and the timeless symbolism of the bird motif — across a ground of warm, dusty pink that feels at once deeply traditional and entirely contemporary.

Birds appear throughout the field and borders of this rug — perched on flowering branches, mid-flight between botanical vines, nestled within the scrolling arabesques that frame the central composition. They are rendered with the characteristic Oushak lightness of hand — not photographic, but present, recognisable, and full of quiet life. The pink ground gives the entire composition a warmth and softness that ivory and terracotta Oushaks do not have — making this rug an especially beautiful choice for bedrooms, sitting rooms, and any space that benefits from colour that is warm without being heavy.

Design Story

Birds have carried meaning in Persian and Turkish decorative art for as long as either tradition has existed. The nightingale and the rose — bulbul and gul — are perhaps the most celebrated pairing in all of Persian poetry and visual art: the bird that sings for the flower it loves, the flower that blooms for the song it receives. Birds in these traditions are never merely decorative. They are symbols of the soul, of longing, of beauty that is transient and therefore precious.

The Oushak tradition has always been drawn to organic motifs — flowers, vines, palmettes, and birds — rendered with a looser, more generous hand than the strict Persian classical style. Where a Tabriz or Isfahan rug maps its design with mathematical precision, an Oushak rug breathes. The motifs have room around them. The field is open. The colours are warm rather than jewel-bright. The effect is not grandeur — it is welcome.

The pink ground of this rug is a considered and somewhat unusual choice within the Oushak tradition, and that is precisely its strength. Pink in this context is not a fashion colour — it is the pink of faded roses, of old plaster walls in afternoon light, of the warm blush that stone takes on at sunset. It ages beautifully. It works with natural materials. It brings genuine softness into any room it enters. Our artisans at Srijan Art Rugs selected this palette knowing that a rug this warm and this gently coloured is the kind of piece that people live with for decades — and love more over time, not less.

Care Instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without the beater bar. Always vacuum in the direction of the pile to maintain the definition of the bird motifs and botanical details.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth. Never rub — blot gently from the outside in. The pink ground will show stains clearly so act fast.
  • Spot clean using a wool-safe detergent with cold water only. Test on a small hidden area first. Rinse thoroughly to remove all residue.
  • Do not machine wash, soak, steam, or tumble dry. Wool and the cotton foundation are both vulnerable to excess water and heat.
  • Protect from direct sunlight — pale and dusty pink tones are particularly sensitive to UV fading and can bleach unevenly with sustained exposure. Rotate 180° every 3 months.
  • Professional deep cleaning recommended every 12–18 months by a specialist experienced with hand knotted wool rugs.
  • Use a non-slip rug pad underneath on hard floors for safety and to protect the cotton foundation from abrasion.
  • Store rolled with pile inward in breathable cotton cloth. Never fold. Keep in a cool, dry, ventilated space away from moisture, sunlight, and pests.
