Hand-Knotted Floral Medallion Design Olive Green Oushak Wool Rug
Hand Knotted · Pure Wool · Oushak Style · Olive Green
Product Description
The Hand-Knotted Floral Medallion Olive Green Oushak Wool Rug is a piece of enduring elegance. Rooted in the centuries-old weaving tradition of Oushak — a region of western Turkey celebrated for producing some of the world's most softly beautiful and generously scaled rugs — this piece brings that same unhurried grace to the modern home, rendered entirely in 100% premium wool and hand knotted knot by patient knot.
The olive green ground is what sets this rug apart from the wider Oushak tradition. Where classic Oushaks typically work in warm ivory, terracotta, and gold, this piece takes a quieter, more contemporary direction — the deep, muted green of aged olive trees, which brings the rug into easy conversation with natural materials, warm wood tones, aged leather, and the earthy, organic interiors that define considered modern living. The floral medallion at the centre, surrounded by graceful botanical scrollwork and a multi-guard border, floats effortlessly in the field — generous, unhurried, and full of quiet detail
Design Story
The Oushak tradition is built on a single, powerful idea: that a rug should make a room feel more restful, not more busy. Oushak weavers have always worked with large-scale motifs, open fields, and soft, vegetable-dyed palettes — creating pieces that fill a space with warmth and presence without ever feeling crowded or demanding.
The floral medallion at the heart of this design follows that philosophy precisely. It is large enough to command the room, but drawn with enough lightness — open petals, curving stems, airy spacing — that it never overwhelms. The olive green palette deepens that effect: this is not a colour that shouts. It is the colour of groves and gardens, of things that have been growing for a long time. It brings age and calm into a room in equal measure.
Our artisans at Srijan Art Rugs knot this design by hand on a vertical loom, working from the base up, building the medallion and its surrounding field thread by thread. The wool pile is hand clipped after knotting to bring the floral motifs into full definition — a finishing step that reveals the true depth and softness of the design. Every piece that leaves our workshop has been through this process. None of them are identical. All of them are exactly as they should be.

Care Instructions
- Vacuum regularly on low suction without the beater bar. Always vacuum in the direction of the pile to protect the knotted wool and preserve the definition of the floral medallion.
- Blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth. Never rub — always blot gently. Rubbing will spread the stain and damage the hand-knotted pile.
- Spot clean using a wool-safe detergent with cold water only. Avoid soaking the pile or the cotton foundation.
- Do not machine wash, tumble dry, soak, or steam clean. Wool and cotton foundations are both vulnerable to excess water and heat.
- Rotate every 3–4 months to distribute foot traffic and light exposure evenly. Olive green tones can fade unevenly with prolonged one-directional exposure to natural light.
- Professional deep cleaning recommended every 12–18 months — use a specialist experienced with hand knotted wool rugs.
- Use a rug pad underneath on hard floors to prevent slipping and protect the cotton foundation from abrasion.
- Store rolled with pile inward, wrapped in breathable cotton cloth. Never fold. Keep in a cool, dry, ventilated space away from sunlight, moisture, and pests.
