Animal Design Bamboo Silk Rug — Large Palace Rug

Handmade · Bamboo Silk · Animal Design · Large Format

Product Description

The Animal Design Bamboo Silk Palace Rug is made for spaces that think on a grand scale. A large-format statement piece woven in 100% bamboo silk, it brings together two things rarely found in the same rug — the drama of animal-inspired design and the cool, natural luminosity of bamboo-derived silk — across a surface generous enough to anchor the largest rooms with confidence and grace.

Bamboo silk — also known as bamboo viscose — is one of the most beautiful sustainable fibres available today. It has the soft sheen and smooth drape of natural silk, the cool touch of linen, and a natural brightness that makes colour appear vivid and clean. It is also more resilient and more accessible than pure animal silk, making it an ideal choice for a large-format palace rug that is meant to be lived with, not just looked at.

The animal design draws from India's rich tradition of wildlife motifs in decorative art — tigers, elephants, peacocks, deer, and botanical fauna woven into scenes that feel both ancient and alive. Rendered across the generous scale of a palace rug, these motifs have the space to breathe, to develop, and to tell a story that only becomes fully visible when the whole piece is seen at once.

Design Story

India's royal courts have always been places where animals and humans shared the decorative imagination. The Mughal emperors commissioned paintings of tigers in forests, elephants in procession, deer grazing at the edge of rivers. These images appeared on palace walls, on court textiles, on the floors of pleasure gardens. Animals, in the Indian courtly tradition, are not merely decorative — they carry meaning, status, and a sense of the natural world brought indoors as tribute.

The Animal Design Palace Rug draws directly from that tradition. The large format is essential — animal compositions need scale to work. A tiger that fills three inches of a small rug is a detail. A tiger that spans three feet of a palace rug is a presence. Our designers and artisans work together to ensure that at the scale of this rug, every animal motif has the weight, the definition, and the compositional confidence it deserves.

The choice of bamboo silk as the pile material is both aesthetic and ethical. Bamboo is one of the world's fastest-growing plants, requires no pesticides, and regenerates naturally after harvest. The fibre it produces has a natural sheen that catches light the way silk does — softly, subtly, differently at every angle — making the animals in the design appear almost to move as you walk around the piece. At Srijan Art Rugs, we believe that the most beautiful things should also be made responsibly. This rug is both.

Care Instructions

  • Vacuum gently on low suction only — no beater bar. Bamboo silk fibres are smooth and fine, and will lose their sheen under mechanical agitation. Vacuum in the direction of the pile, once or twice a week.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry, white cloth. Never use coloured cloths. Do not rub under any circumstances — bamboo silk is sensitive to abrasion and rubbing will permanently dull the pile surface.
  • Cold water only for spot treatment. Bamboo viscose is highly sensitive to heat — warm or hot water will cause the fibres to distort and the pile to mat. Never apply steam.
  • Avoid alkaline detergents — use only pH-neutral, silk-safe cleaning products in very small amounts if needed. Rinse thoroughly — residue attracts dirt and dulls the sheen.
  • Do not machine wash, soak, or tumble dry. The large format and bamboo silk construction both make wet home cleaning a serious risk of irreversible damage.
  • Professional cleaning only for deep cleaning — use a specialist experienced with bamboo silk or viscose pile rugs. Recommended every 12–18 months.
  • Protect from direct sunlight — bamboo silk, like all viscose-derived fibres, is sensitive to UV fading. Rotate the rug periodically and use window treatments to limit direct light exposure.
  • For large format storage — roll around a wide-diameter acid-free tube with pile inward. Wrap in breathable cotton cloth. Never fold a palace-size rug — folding a large bamboo silk piece causes permanent crease damage that is very difficult to reverse.
